For many years, VEGA MANILA CREWMANAGEMENT, INC. (VMCI) has collaborated and tapped the excellence of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU), the first maritime university in the Philippines, in its Cadet Scholarship Program.

This program aims to establish a pool of intelligent, healthy, and well-trained future Marine Officers. Called Vega Cadets, these scholars have the potential to become the backbone of VMCI manpower and thus, sustain the growth of its principals/owners.

Vega Cadets are rigidly selected among the pre-qualified applicants of JBLFMU, with preference for poor but deserving midshipmen. The program allows the scholars to have three (3) straight years of studies ashore and one (1) year of cadetship (laboratory) aboard any of VMCI’s manned vessels. Immediately after obtaining their degrees, Vega Cadets take the licensure exam for their competency requirement and commence a fulfilling career at sea.

In its commitment to provide opportunities for the youth, VMCI has a steadily growing network of scholars who have already graduated and are now working as marine officers, and in their own way, helping others as well.
